RZSS shortlisted for Charity of the Year

We are delighted to be shortlisted for Charity of the Year in the Scottish Charity Awards.
2018 was an incredible year for the Society, with record visitor numbers at Highland Wildlife Park following the birth of Hamish, the first polar bear to be born in the UK for 25 years, and successful Giant Lanterns of China events at Edinburgh Zoo.
After a decade of work with partners, we have now returned the beaver to Scotland, which had been hunted to extinction on these shores more than 400 years ago. Here at home, we are also at the forefront of efforts to help save the wildcat from extinction.
Around the world, we are helping to protect chimpanzees in Uganda, the Pallas’ cat in Central Asia, giant armadillos in the Brazilian Pantanal, partula snails in Tahiti and many other magnificent species.
Connecting people with nature is at the heart of our work. In 2018 we engaged with more than 20,000 children in our education programmes at Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park, encouraging and inspiring the next generation of conservationists.
While the charity of the year will be chosen by a panel of judges, there is also a People’s Choice Award which is decided by a public vote.
