The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s (RZSS) Highland Wildlife Park has joined the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
David Field, RZSS chief executive, said, “We are thrilled that Highland Wildlife Park is now a member of WAZA. RZSS has long been a part of the global zoo community and this reflects our charity’s dedication to high standards of animal welfare, wildlife conservation and inspiring people to protect, value and love nature.
“Highland Wildlife Park is at the heart of species conservation action in Scotland. The opening of the nearly £8 million Scotland’s Wildlife Discovery Centre later this year will bring to life the challenges facing wildlife in Scotland and around the world.”
WAZA CEO, Dr Martín Zordan said, “We are very pleased to welcome Highland Wildlife Park as a WAZA member. The institution has played a crucial role in the recovery of wildcats and three native invertebrate species, and I am confident that our community will have tremendous opportunities to learn from their impactful work.”
Highland Wildlife Park is also a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA).
